Confusion, Uncertainty and Disorder: Nursing in the times of COVID-19

COVID-19 has changed almost everything we perceived as normal. From education to business and social life to personal interests, the developments have been immense.

Some positive, some negative, but neutral, on the whole. After all, that’s the way nature balances itself. But when there are negatives, they require addressing. That’s the way humans progress.

Therefore, to satisfy the aforementioned statement, I bring to light an issue that you, I, and everyone has been overlooking. Trust me; there are things we are completely oblivious to.

Confusion for Nurses

Health care professionals are being called CORONA WARRIORS, and that’s so gratifying. However, this pandemic has taken a toll on their physical and mental health.

Because it has been a long time since the spreading, the life of health care professionals is getting affected beyond comprehension. They are confused between professional and personal lives.

Some of my friends who have kids are in a dual state of mind. They are just not able to do enough for their kids because of the high demand for nursing professionals in hospitals.

As a result, they are compelled to choose between the two. If you ask me, things cannot worse than this. People who have worked hard all their lives to do justice to their potential have to succumb to the life choices.

Obviously, everyone will choose their family, and rightly so.

Is this inevitable?

Yes, if the scenario remains the same. No, if administrations, health care facilities, or human service organisations step in to assist the nurses. You see, it is the social responsibility of the government and the concerned health care facility to serve the employees.

And NOW IS THE TIME! If appropriate interventions are put to place, this can be stopped. But there’s always an “IF” attached to such notions. However, we can change that. How? By bringing the issue to light just like I did right now. Well, not probably in a similar manner, you can use your intellect to raise the concern.

The role of schools

Schools can play a significant role in helping these nurses. First off, they must exhibit more flexibility so that children aren’t pressurised to comply with the curriculum. That way, their parents won’t need to worry about their education, at least for the time being.

Second, schools can discuss with the local authorities the best practices that can facilitate the reopening of classrooms. That way, the parents will feel secure about their children’s future and will be able to buy their time while the children are away at school.

Conclusion

Kindness has always been one of the greatest virtues, but now it is above everything that is perceived as good. So, be KIND to others because they might be stressed out in these difficult times. This applies to individuals, organizations, communities and every other entity that is associated with real-life happenings.
