Looking Back, Moving Forward: A Reflection on 2023 and Beyond
As a nurse/midwife and an entrepreneur, I have always been passionate about finding ways to combine my three passions. And that’s how Nursingpreneur.com was born. It started as a small blog, where I shared my experiences and insights on being a nurse/midwife and running my own business. But over the past year, it has grown into a thriving community of nurses who are also pursuing their entrepreneurial dreams.
One of the key reasons why I started Nursingpreneur.com was to break the stereotype that nurses can only work in traditional healthcare settings. I wanted to show that as nurses, we have a unique set of skills and knowledge that can be applied to various industries and business ventures. And through my blog posts, I have been able to showcase the diverse range of opportunities available for nurses.
From starting a home healthcare agency to creating a mobile health app, the possibilities for nurses in the business world are endless. And through my blog posts, I have shared tips and advice on how to navigate the challenges and capitalise on the opportunities in these industries. I have also interviewed successful nurse entrepreneurs who have shared their journeys and insights, inspiring others to take the leap and pursue their own entrepreneurial ventures.
But being a nursepreneur is not just about starting a business. It’s about having an entrepreneurial mindset and constantly seeking ways to innovate and improve in our nursing practice. That’s why I have also written extensively about the importance of professional development and staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in healthcare. As nurses, we have a responsibility to continuously learn and grow, and my blog posts aim to provide valuable resources and information to help nurses do just that.
In addition to sharing my own experiences and knowledge, I have also used Nursingpreneur.com as a platform to highlight important issues and challenges faced by nurses in the entrepreneurial world. From dealing with burnout and work-life balance to navigating legal and financial aspects of running a business, I have addressed these topics and more in my blog posts. I believe that by bringing these issues to light, we can start important conversations and work towards finding solutions to better support nurse entrepreneurs.
But perhaps one of the most rewarding aspects of running Nursingpreneur.com has been the community that has formed around it. I have had the privilege of connecting with so many incredible nurses who are also pursuing their entrepreneurial dreams. Through comments, emails, and social media interactions, I have been able to build a network of like-minded individuals who share a passion for nursing and entrepreneurship. And it is this community that continues to inspire and motivate me to keep writing and sharing my experiences.
As I look back on the past year, I am grateful for the growth and success of Nursingpreneur.com. But more importantly, I am grateful for the impact it has had on nurses around the world. I hope that through my blog posts, I have been able to encourage and empower other nurses to pursue their own entrepreneurial journeys. And I am excited to see where the next year will take us as we continue to grow and support each other as nursepreneurs.
My top Moments of 2023: A Year to Remember!
As I sit down to reflect on my journey so far, I am filled with a sense of gratitude and accomplishment. Three years ago, I started my blog, Nursingpreneur, with the intention of documenting my journey as a nursing and midwifery student and sharing my experiences with others. Little did I know that this blog would become a platform for me to not only share my story but also inspire and connect with other healthcare professionals.
This year will always hold a special place in my heart as it was the year I completed my studies of the nursing and midwifery dual degree. It was a goal I had set for myself years ago, and finally achieving it was a major milestone in my life. The journey to becoming a registered nurse/midwife was not an easy one. It required countless hours of studying, practical placements, and sacrifices. But every late-night study session and every moment of self-doubt was worth it.
Since then, I have been working in the healthcare industry for over three months, and I must say, I am loving it! Being able to make a positive impact on the lives of others has been incredibly rewarding. Whether it’s helping a new mother deliver her baby or providing comfort and care to a sick patient, I am grateful for the opportunity to use my skills and knowledge to make a difference.
Aside from my role as a nurse/midwife, I also had the privilege of being a part of an organisation that I co-founded with two of my friends. The Somali Healthcare Professionals (SHP) aims to connect and empower current and future Somali healthcare professionals while giving back to the community. In the past three years, our organisation has grown significantly, and I am proud of the work we have done and the plans we have for the future. If you want to learn more about our organisation,
Please visit our website and follow us on Instagram and LinkedIn. Which you can find the links on the bottom of the blog post!
But that’s not all, 2023 was also a year of entrepreneurship for me. I started not one, but two businesses. The first one, Uplann, is a productivity app that I have been working on since the beginning of the year. While the process has been challenging and expensive, I am determined to make this app a reality. I have some exciting plans to make it even more unique, and I can’t wait to share it with the world.
The second business I started was Nursingpreneurshop, a shop that sells mugs for nurses and midwives. My goal with this business is to support and motivate my fellow healthcare workers who are doing amazing work every day. I am grateful for the support I have received so far, and I hope to expand this business to include other healthcare professionals in the future. If you want to check out my mugs or support my small business, please visit my shop on Etsy or my blog’s website.
As I look back on the past year, I am proud of all that I have accomplished and the person I have become. But I also know that this is just the beginning of my journey. I have big plans for 2024, and I am excited to see where this path will take me.
Lessons Learned on My Journey
This year has been a rollercoaster of emotions and experiences, but one thing that has remained constant is the lessons I have learned along the way. As I reflect on the past 12 months, I am grateful for the growth and knowledge that I have gained. And one of the most valuable lessons I have learned is the importance of taking things slow.
In a world that is constantly moving at a rapid pace, it can be easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle and feel the need to rush through everything. But this year, I have learned that taking your time and not rushing into completing projects or goals is crucial. When we rush, we often miss out on important details and make mistakes that could have been avoided if we had just taken a step back and approached things with patience and mindfulness.
I have also learned the power of believing in myself and manifesting my dreams and goals. Whether it happens this year or in the next 2-5 years, I know that if I keep working towards my aspirations, they will eventually come to fruition. It’s important to never give up on our dreams and to keep pushing forward, even when faced with challenges or setbacks.
Another important lesson I learned this year is to not compare myself to others. It’s easy to look at someone else’s success and wonder why we aren’t at that same level. But the truth is, everyone has their own unique journey and timeline. We can’t compare our chapter one to someone else’s chapter ten. What matters is that we keep moving forward and enjoy the journey, rather than focusing solely on the destination.
And speaking of the journey, I have also learned the importance of not listening to those who doubt or discourage us. During my nursing and midwifery journey, someone told me that maybe it wasn’t the right path for me. But I remembered my reason why I started and refused to let their words bring me down. And I’m so glad I did, because I am now on my way to achieving my goals and making a positive impact in my community.
But it’s not just about achieving our goals, it’s also about taking care of ourselves along the way. This year, I have realised the importance of investing in ourselves and practicing self-care. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and forget to take breaks, treat ourselves, and look after our health. But our future selves will thank us for taking the time to invest in our well-being.
As I look towards the future, I am excited for what it holds and the opportunities that await. And I know that by taking things slow, believing in myself, not comparing myself to others, and investing in my well-being, I will continue to learn and grow on this journey towards my dreams. So here’s to a year of valuable lessons and a future filled with endless possibilities.
Discover the Future of Nursingpreneurship: My 2024 Vision Unveiled!
As I look ahead to the year 2024, I am filled with excitement and determination. This year, I plan to continue working on my two businesses and my organisation, Somali Healthcare Professional (SHP). These ventures have been my passion projects and I am committed to seeing them grow and succeed.
In addition to my business endeavours, I also plan to work full time for 4-5 days a week. This will allow me to have a stable income while still pursuing my entrepreneurial dreams. I am grateful for the opportunities that nursing has given me and I am excited to continue making a difference in the healthcare field.
One of my goals for 2024 is to continue writing blog posts about my business journey and my personal journey. I have found writing to be a therapeutic outlet and I hope to inspire and educate others through my words. I have set a goal to write at least 15 articles or more on various topics such as nursing, midwifery, and entrepreneurship. I am also looking forward to collaborating with other bloggers and entrepreneurs to share our knowledge and experiences.
