How to be productive at home during COVID-19?

Changes are a significant part of human sustenance; however, the change that the world has witnessed in 2020 is beyond common comprehension.
For the past two months, a considerable portion of the otherwise lively landmass has been under lockdown. The reason is one of the deadliest pathogens ever—Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) or COVID-19.

While several laboratories around the world are testing drugs and vaccines, there’s no assurance that a concrete cure will be available until the end of this year.

For all these reasons, it has become extremely vital that humans know how to survive and be productive while being confined to specific places, especially homes. From scheduling the workflow to self-contemplation, this is the time that you and I can utilize for personal development.

Having said that, here are some measures that you can take for tackling the challenging work-from-home (WFH) scenario.

Prioritizing the tasks without any delay

COVID-19 is going to stay with the citizenry for a long time, but that doesn’t imply that you have the liberty to procrastinate. With the global economy already at an all-time low, you should be proactive in your approach to do what’s necessary. With no supervisor consistently directing you, it becomes even more important that you avoid laziness.

Tip: Use Google Sheets/MS Excel or project management tools like Trello or Basecamp to list your “to be completed” tasks.

Finding a spot working at home

Think of WFH as a business where you have to have a setup. It can be your window-side table or a writing desk placed in your drawing room. Choosing a place can help you align your thoughts and focus better. Also, it can make your transition from in-office to home-office seamless.

Investing time in introspection

Have you ever examined yourself? If not, then there’s no better time than RIGHT NOW. Let’s say that you take

  • 40 minutes for getting ready for the office
  • 60 minutes for the two-way commute
  • 30 minutes for relaxing at the end of the day

That accounts for almost two hours of your day. Now that you’re WFH, you should be utilizing this time for your betterment. I must assert that there’s no better thing than self-examination.

Tip: You can use meditation as a tool to align your brain in a particular direction so that it becomes easy to answer the questions that keep popping up.

Completing the unfinished projects

Now, this may or may not be related to your work. For instance, if you started writing poetry that was left unfinished, now’s the time to revisit and wrap it up. A fresh perspective to an unfinished business can assist you in shaping it in an entirely different way. And who knows that while working on this project, a spectacular idea embraces your mind.

Just THINK ABOUT IT.

Learning new concepts and improving competence

You know that it’s competitive out there, isn’t it? For that reason, there’s no point in keeping yourself oblivious to the new concepts pertaining to your field. Sites like Coursera, Udemy, HubSpot, Academic Earth, etc have so much to offer.

Important Note: These days, most e-learning sites are providing discounts via coupons or promo codes. And if they are not, the prices for the courses are considerably down.

Communicating and interacting

There’s no doubt that isolation can influence the peace of your mind. That’s why I’ll highly recommend that you keep scheduling meetings with your colleagues and keep interacting with new people on social media.

I believe that this lockdown has allowed us to perceive self-branding in an altogether different way. So, why not leverage the opportunity?
